Borders, Migration and Globalization

This project will examine how immigration, borders, and sexualities are mutually transforming one another within the context of economic, political and informational globalization. The University of Arizona offers a particularly rich location for examining this critical issue, since Arizona is the busiest border crossing point in the U.S., a "refugee resettlement" site, a human and product transportation hub, and the home of diverse immigrant and LGBTQ communities. The multi-faceted Borders, Migration and Globalization initiative will include conferences, publications, visiting scholars and curricular development.

Sexualities and Homeland (In)Securities Conference

On April 11, 2006, LGBT Studies hosted a national conference that critically examined how sexual politics has become a critical terrain for local, national and global “homeland security” strategies. The presenters addressed how struggles for sexual, racial, gender, economic, and cultural justice have been affected and reconfigured as a result.
